The valley of Portillo is truly unique. Near the base of Mt. Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the America's, the ski area surrounds the deep emerald blue Laguna del Inca glacial lake. The slopes tumble down from the massive shoulders of mountains that surround the resort. 12 lifts serve 25 trails offering a mix of 24% easiest, 33% intermediate, and 43% advanced/expert terrain. Portillo has skiing to satisfy skiers of all levels. Most guests visiting Portillo will reside in the Hotel Portillo- a grand hotel finished in 1949, which still retains the elegance of an era gone by. All activities revolve around the hotel and part of the Portillo experience is meeting and getting to know your fellow skiers. Many repeat guests will tell you they return to Portillo every year for this congenial atmosphere.

Room Descriptions:
  • Double Lake rooms have a magnificent view of Lake Inca, the Tres Hermanos peaks and the slopes.
  • 6th floor doubles have larger bathrooms and windows, and have balconies. All have lake views.
  • Family apartments have two bedrooms, one with two twins or a queen-sized bed, and the other with bunks; apartments are for a minimum of 4 guests and maximum of 6 guests. Children and teens 0 to17 years old staying in family apartments pay children's or teen rates as listed, adults pay family apartment rate as listed. If only children or teens are staying in a family apartment, two must pay the adult family apartment rate.
  • Octagon Lodge rooms have four beds (two bunks) and private bathroom. Guests dine in the main dining room and have full access to all hotel activities and facilities.
  • Inca Lodge rooms are smaller and have four beds (two bunks). Bathrooms are communal. Guests dine in the hotel's self-service cafeteria, but otherwise have full access to all hotel facilities. The Inca Lodge is popular with young adults, backpackers and students.
  • Children 4 - 11 and teens 12 - 17 in extra beds pay children's or teen prices. Only one extra bed is permitted per room. Parents are responsible for providing proof of age if necessary.
  • Due to size limitations of the rooms the hotel does not recommend adult extra beds in the rooms. Consult us for adult extra bed prices.
Miscellaneous Hotel Information
  • Tours of the hotel and its facilities are made every Saturday night. We recommend these tours to first-time visitors so that they learn of the many things there are to do in Portillo.
  • Tap water in Portillo is not only potable, it is delicious and pure.
  • Portillo's rooms do not have television, however television may be seen at certain hours in the cinema or the disco. This is intended to encourage guests to enjoy the many services, entertainment and activities available, and to get to know the other guests.
  • Portillo asks that all guests wear nice clothing and shoes to the dining room for the evening meal. Ski clothes are fine at breakfast and lunch. Guests who enjoy getting dressed more elegantly for dinner are welcomed and encouraged to do so.
  • Portillo (and all of Chile) uses 220-volt electricity, so guests might need to bring transformers.
  • Internet access is available for an additional charge through wireless service in the rooms or the Portillo Cyber caf‚.
Getting to Portillo Guests fly into Santiago International Airport (8 hours from Miami). The drive to Portillo takes a little over 2 hours and offers magnificent scenic views. Transportation is not included in the price, but can be arranged by contacting The Ski Organizers.

Road-Closed Policy The road to Portillo is also the International Highway that links Santiago, Chile, with Mendoza, Argentina. The highway is maintained by the Chilean Ministry of Public Works, who is responsible for cleaning following snowstorms or other events. Portillo Ski Resort is not responsible for the condition of the road.

IMPORTANT: Guests who are unable to drive up to Portillo while the road is closed will be directly responsible for their accommodation and other expenses in Santiago or elsewhere. The nights that are not used at Portillo will be accredited to their accounts. Guests will be able to choose whether to transfer the credit to their extra services account (ski lessons, bar bills, etc.), use the credit toward a future reservation within the same season, or proceed for reimbursement through their respective agency.

IMPORTANT: Guests who are unable to descend from Portillo and must spend the night in the resort will be charged the full rate for their first night's accommodation. However, beginning the second night, a 50% discount is applied to the normal rate.

PORTILLO OPERATES WITH NATURAL AND MAN-MADE SNOW, WHICH ALLOWS FOR THE CONSISTENT OPERATION OF THE SKI AREA ONCE IT IS OPEN.
